Type Locality and Naming

Northeast Liaoning. The Tongjiajie Fm was named by the No. 9 Party of Geology, Liaoning Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources in 1989. The type section is in Wuchong, Shangnianmazhou Township, Fushun, Liaoning Province. Lowermost (1 of 6) formation of Shyatun Gr.

Synonym: (佟家街组)


Lithology and Thickness

The Tongjiajie Fm is composed of littoral sediments. Lower part consists of dolomitic feldspar quartz sandstone, fine-crystalline dolomite and psephitic dolomite. Middle part is composed of fine-grained feldspar-quartz sandstone, laminated (striped) silty, muddy slate. Upper part consists of medium- to fine-grained feldspar-quartz sandstone, laminated (banded) silty, muddy slate and muddy slate. It is cited as 685 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It is in conformable contact with underlying Guanmenshan Fm of Sanchazi Gr.

Upper contact

Conformably overlain by the Hutouling Fm

Regional extent

Northeast Liaoning. Fushun, Liaoning Province. The formation is distributed in Fanhe River drainage area. It is laterally stable in lithological character, but relatively variable in thickness, for example it is only 529 m thick in Sanchazi area, Tieling County.

Fossils

The typical taxa of stromatolites are Pseudogymnosolen mopanyuensis, Scyphus parvus, Conophyton concellosum.
